Wilma Looyenga, 86, Mandan, died May 22, 2012 at the Strasburg Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at United Methodist Church, Mandan, with Reverend Steve C. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Wilma was born February 14, 1926 to Dick and Cora (Hollaar) IntVeldt at her family home in Westfield, ND where she was raised and educated. On November 1, 1944 she married Bernie Looyenga in Westfield and they moved to Mandan. A wonderful wife and mother, Wilma’s passion was caring for her family. She liked embroidery, gardening, playing the organ, and shopping. A warm and kind person, she easily made friends and liked to visit. Wilma enjoyed a simple and quiet life. Bernie passed away in 1990 and Wilma remained in her home in Mandan until 2011 when she moved to the Strasburg Care Center. Blessed to have shared her life are two daughters, Elaine (Bob) McNeill, Bismarck and Charlene Nash, Moorhead, MN; two sons, Roger (Ann) Looyenga, Vonore, TN and Robert Looyenga, Bismarck; two grandson, Justin (Amy) Looyenga and Nathan Looyenga; one great grandson, Ryan Looyenga; a brother, Arlin (Carol) IntVeldt, Strasburg; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Rodney; and two grandchildren, Bobbie and Brian. Memorials are preferred to the Boy Scouts. Go to www.nlcbsa.org to donate.
