William “Billy” Adams, age 82, of Mandan, died June 26, 2012 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck as a result of West Nile disease with viral encephalitis complications. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 29, 2012 at the First Lutheran Church in Mandan with the Rev. Lee Herberg officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 10:00 AM Monday with military honors provided by the Mandan VFW and American Legion Posts. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Billy was born on December 15, 1929 in Mandan, the son of William C. and Irene (Neverdahl) Adams. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Ward in Okinawa. An Airman 1st Class, Billy also served in the U.S. Army reserves, retiring in 1978, with the rank of staff sergeant. He was united in marriage to Florence Ann Roehrich on November 5, 1957 in Bismarck. He dairy farmed south of Mandan for many years.
Billy loved to play the accordion and have coffee with friends. He also enjoyed gardening and stayed active helping friends. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the V.F.W., American Legion, the Moose, and was a former member of the Eagles.
He is survived his sons, Michael (Pam), Scott (Patti), and James, all of Mandan; his grandchildren, Kristy (Ryan) Brouchet of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Billy Adams of Mandan, and Mandy Adams (special friend, Jerry King) of Rapid City, South Dakota; great grandchildren, Ryan Brouchet Jr., Kye Brouchet, Tate Beckler, Taylor Adams, and Chance King; and special friend, Pat Vadnais.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Scott; and his wife Florence, who died in 2008.
