Walter A. Butler, 75, died April 28, 2011 at his home in Mandan. Services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Cremation has taken place and family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
Walter was born May 22, 1935 in Mandan to Frank and Sarah (Carlson) Butler. Raised and educated in Mandan, he later joined the Air Force. After proudly serving in Korea he was honorably discharged. A hard worker, Walter owned and operated Butler Trucking for numerous years. In 1977 he married Donna Klein Taxis. With this marriage Walter gained a family he so loved. He treasured the time they shared together and was an amazing dad, grandfather, and great grandfather to many throughout his years. Left with fond memories are his step children, Cathy Taxis (Geno Sweeney), Fargo, Michael Taxis (Dawn Weiss), Linton, Connie (Jerry) Qual, Jamestown; brothers, Raymond (Caroline), Wayne (Marge), and Gary (Alice), all of Mandan; sister, Donna (Jerry) Ennen, Mandan; grandchildren, Stefany (Jeremy) Halvorson, Danielle and Ryan Sweeney, Misty (Delvin) Rogers, Tara (Eric) Erbentraut, Zach (June) Lafrombois, James (Libby) Darnell, Tara (Chad) Olheiser, Jonas Taxis, Travis (Sara) Klein, Chelsea Klein, Jason (Jen) Qual; great grandchildren, Haydyn Halvorson, Natasha, Nikoy, and Autumn Rogers, Samantha, Xavier, and Eric Erbentraut, Morgan, Jenna, and Justin Darnell, Jace Olheiser, Taitum Taxis, Dominic Klein, NaTaeha Klein, Seth and Aaliyah Qual; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Connie and Dan Kraft and their daughters, Crystal, and Casey.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna, in July 2010; sisters Genevieve and Orma; and brothers, Arnold, LeRoy, Robert, and his twin brother, George.
