Virginia Ulrich

Virginia “Jeannie” Ulrich, 68, Mandan, died December 17, 2017 at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with Rev. Lee Herberg officiating.  Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, December 19 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service at 7 pm.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Jeannie was born July 2, 1949 in Mandan to Matt and Magdalyn (Wirtz) Johner.  She graduated from Mandan High School and NDSU.  In 1987 she married Donald Ulrich.  In 1992 they moved north of Mandan along the Square Butte Creek.  Don and Jeannie developed and landscaped this piece of property in their spare time and planted large gardens each summer.  They lived there until the flood of 2011 and with heavy hearts, they decided to move back into Mandan. Jeannie worked for an optometrist and later as a claims analyst for the State of ND.  In her free time Jeannie loved gardening and tending to her flower beds.  She and Don enjoyed doing home improvement projects.  She had a very special place in her heart for her adopted dog, Ebony.

Blessed to have shared her life are three step-sons, Dion (Karen) Ulrich, Corey (Tonya) Ulrich, and Troy Ulrich, all of Mandan; four grandchildren, Madisen, Morgan, McKenzie, and Ryan Ulrich; two brothers, Patrick (Betty) Johner, Costa Mesa, CA and Bill (Karen) Johner, Mandan; sister-in-law, Sylvia Johner, Denver, CO; brother-in-law, Tom Howard, Wash.; Donald’s siblings, Joyce (Jeff) Steinle, Bismarck, Karen (Doug) Sokolosky, Bismarck, Rod (Evon) Ulrich, Tim Ulrich, and Muriel Ulrich, all of Elgin;  numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends whom Jeannie loved and had a special bond with, Eric and Amanda Jensen and their four children.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, on May 4, 2017; sister, Marlene Johner Howard; brother, Michael Johner; and nephew, Tom Johner.
