Theresa K. Wead, 68, Mandan, died November 22, 2014 at the Sanford Off Collins Care Center after a 9 month battle with lung cancer.
Honoring her daughter’s career in pathology, Theresa donated her body to science. A memorial service will be held sometime in December.
Theresa was born July 19, 1946 in Dickinson to Andrew and Louise (Duletski) Dietz. Her family moved to Mandan when she was in the first grade. Theresa loved yard work and took great pride in her yard. She was honored to win “Best Yard” in her neighborhood. She was talented and liked to do arts and crafts. A people person, she was a wonderful waitress for many years where she made many friends. She worked at Vi’s Café, Stage Stop, the Silver Dollar, Capital Lanes, and most recently as a cook at the Youth Correctional Center. Her greatest pride was her daughter, Melanie. They were very close and shared countless memories and fun times. They especially enjoyed their day trips to the casino and the time she visited Melanie in Wyoming for a month. Melanie’s friends also looked up to Theresa like a second mother. Theresa was a member of the Moose and Eagles. Very generous and giving, Theresa would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat.
Blessed to have shared her life is her daughter, Melanie Wead, Mandan; 8 siblings, including special sister, Cecilia Schroeder, Butte, MT and brothers, Terry (Sandy) Dietz, Mandan and Casimir (Laverna) Dietz, Bismarck; her best friend of more than 40 years, Marlene White, Mandan; and many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Nicholas; siblings, MaryAnn Putnam and James Dietz; brother-in-law, Dan “Roger” Schroeder; and special friend, Leonard Bender.
