Terry Piper, 72, Mandan, died January 5, 2014 at Sanford Health, Bismarck following a 5 year battle with cancer.

Terry was born November 16, 1941 in Aberdeen, SD to A.W. “Mike” and R. Violet (Knox) Stellner. Raised and educated in Aberdeen, she attended rural schools through eighth grade and then lived in town, paying room and board while she attended Aberdeen Central High School, graduating in 1959. She attended Business School, receiving her certification and then worked at Dakota Farmer Magazine. Terry met Bob Piper and they were married on January 13, 1962. They made their home in Mandan where they raised their five children. Terry worked as a receptionist for Doc Wheeler for a number of years. She had a passion for reading and loved her work at the Mandan City Library for 26 years. Gentle hearted and very kind, Terry had a gift for the work she did with Meals on Wheels at the Golden Age Services. She loved the people she got to know and touched so many lives through her activities there. For 40 years, Terry met with four lady friends for their hobby club, something she always looked forward to. A talented green thumb, Terry could grow anything. Her yard and home were full of a beautiful variety of plants and flowers. She also loved to dance, teaching her children, and later enjoyed going to the local clubs with friends. A fan of game shows, she enjoyed Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune. A wonderful hostess, Terry always made holiday meals for her family and treasured the time they spent together. Best known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies, Terry was a wonderful cook and baker and would often make special treats for her kids and grandkids. For many years she collected buffalo knick knacks and art. Terry’s faith in God was evident throughout her life. Growing up she was a confirmed member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in rural Aberdeen and after moving to Mandan was an active member of Messiah Lutheran and First Lutheran Churches. Diagnosed with cancer in January 2009, Terry showed strength and courage throughout her battle. A genuine treasure and an irreplaceable angel, Terry will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Blessed to have shared her life are her children, Lisa (Kevin) Weisz, Hazen, Scott (Glenda) Piper, Ryan Piper, and Mitchell Piper, all of Mandan; six grandchildren, Nolan and Lacie Weisz, Hannah Brown, and Elizabeth, Scotty, and Jack Piper; her sister, Mickie Gust, Park Forrest, IL; special friend, Dennis Ogroske, Mandan; former husband, Bob Piper, Mandan; and countless friends.
Terry was preceded in death by her son, Robbie in 1988; her parents; and brother-in-law, Bob Gust.
