Shirley Bauer, 88, New Salem, died Friday, July 26, 2024, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem, with Pastor Zelwyn Heide officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2024, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Shirley was born July 18, 1936 in Hazen N.D., to Erwin and Lea (Traxel) Tschaekofske. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school near Pick City. She was baptized and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hazen.
On October 18, 1953, she married the love of her life, Harold Bauer. They lived on the family farm, where they raised their children. In 1986, they moved to New Salem. They enjoyed many years camping, fishing, traveling, and playing with grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed painting ceramics, sewing, cooking for family and playing cards with her friends. She was active in her church, serving with the LWML as well as teaching Sunday School and VBS. In January 2014, they moved to Elm Crest Manor Assisted Living Apartments and in January of 2023 she entered into the nursing home.
Shirley is survived by her three children, Diane (Terrence) Mosbrucker, New Salem, Howard (Sandra) Bauer, Mandan, and Gloria (David) Berg, Stanton; 11 grandchildren, Jamie (Brooke) Mosbrucker, Kristen (Joel) Just, Carrie (Jesse) Maier, Jared (Stacy) Mosbrucker, Kathryn (Eric) Erhardt, Amanda Bauer, Matthew Bauer, Ryan (Andrea) Berg, Justin (Mallory) Berg, Allen (Crystal) Berg, and Adam ( Abigail) Berg; 22 great-grandchildren, Paige, Libby, & Will Mosbrucker, Bradyn, Brycen, Emily, and Braxton Just, Hallie, Ethan, Bailey, and Taven Maier, Hadley, Coleton, and Cullen Mosbrucker, Brilee, Lyla, Rose, and Eli Erhardt, Luca and Conrad Berg, Cruze Mees and Payton Berg; brother-in-law, Erhardt (Anita) Bauer of Portland, Ore., sisters-in-law, Delores Kunz and Laura Bauer–Opp both of New Salem and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Anna Bauer; brother, Jim (Marlene) Tschaekofske, sister, Darene (Bob) Imamoto, also her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ervin (Agnes) Bauer, Verna Dockter, Victor (Lee) Bauer, Calvin (Audrey) Bauer, Donald Bauer and Wilbert Kunz.
