Sharon Hartmann of New Salem passed away August 14, 2019.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Peace Church in New Salem. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sharon Ann Becher was born November 15, 1942 to Paul and Alvina (Bauer) Becher. She was raised on the family farm in the Blue Grass area and attended the country school a short distance from the farm. Sharon then attended Capital Commercial College and worked for the State Tax Department. On April 2, 1965, she married Jewell McNeill. They moved out to the Becher farm and had two daughters, Julie and Jodie. Jewell passed away on November 4, 1968. On December 2, 1982 Sharon married Condon Hartmann. They farmed together on the Hartmann family farm south of New Salem. Condon passed away on June 19, 2007. Sharon continued to live on the farm that she loved so much. She loved to raise a huge garden and generously shared her harvest with others and often donated vegetables to the soup kitchen. She always had room in her garden for many flowers and enjoyed putting together bouquets to share. Sharon was very active in the community and in the church. She served as the president of the New Salem Historical Society for many years, retiring in 2018. Sharon spent many hours working on displays at the museum. She loved taking people through the museum and sharing her knowledge of the artifacts and the history of the community. She enjoyed researching records and providing information for people doing genealogy research. Sharon also served as the president of the Morton County Historical Society. Sharon belonged to the Women’s Life Group and enjoyed taking part in their activities and volunteer work. She was a member of the Peace Church Women’s Guild and helped with funeral meals for many years.
Sharon’s family was so important to her. Her granddaughter, Sharelle, was her pride and joy. She is survived by her daughters, Julie McNeill and Jodie (Martin) Leier and her granddaughter, Sharelle Leier, all of Bismarck; her sister-in-law, LaVonne Borner, New Salem; and many nieces and nephews.
