January 13, 1934 — April 10, 2025

Flasher

Roger Wenger, 91, of Flasher, passed away due to natural causes on April 10th, 2025, at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem ND. The funeral service will be held on April 15th at 10am in the North Gym of the Flasher High School with Reverend Bethany Haberstroh officiating. Burial will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be held on April 14th at the Buehler-Larson funeral home in Mandan from 5-7pm CT with a prayer service following at 7pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the school on Tuesday.

Roger Wenger was born on January 13th, 1934, in Mandan to Fred and Freda (Richter) Wenger. He was raised and educated in Flasher and graduated from FHS in 1953. After graduating high school, he worked various jobs which included helping the local farmers, the butcher shop in the grocery store in Flasher and the Flasher Elevator.

On October 11th, 1954, he married the love of his life Ruth (Rossow) in Flasher. They later moved to the family farm south of Flasher where they spent their lives and raised their two daughters. Roger and Ruth were married for 61 years. Roger tried his hand at many things, including milking cows until Ruth decided enough was enough. They had pigs, sheep and chickens. They had beef cattle and farmed for many years. Roger taught his daughters how to do anything and everything he knew that had to do with farming and ranching.

Roger enjoyed fishing and he took a few trips to Canada with his oldest grandsons. He also enjoyed hunting, playing golf and playing cards (with a little Grand Canadian). Especially playing a good game of thirteen with his sisters. As all the grandkids got older, he rarely missed a sporting event. He loved going to his basketball games, even when his grandkids weren’t playing. The younger grandchildren were lucky enough to have been right across the yard from Roger, and when he decided he wanted to go on a trip to Raleigh fishing or a special trip to Bismarck to get Sam's Cola from Walmart, he always made a phone call to see if one of the kids would want to tag-along.

Roger and Ruth also enjoyed traveling. They took many trips, some of which included Hawaii, Ireland, Germany, Washington DC and many many more. He made frequent trips out to see his sisters, where he enjoyed going to the horse races. One of the last trips he took was this last summer to Washington State to see his sisters and their families. He had a memorable time and always enjoyed going out to Washington.

Roger will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his two daughters; Diane (Jim) Bachmeier, Carson, and Melissa “Tobey” (Jerid) Isbell, Flasher; Seven grandchildren, Chad (Maria) Bachmeier, Todd (Ashley) Bachmeier, Brett Bachmeier (Annah Belisle), Kalin Bachmeier and Lezlee Isbell (special friend, Devin Feist), Colt Isbell and Tucker Isbell. Nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Imogene Lawson, Joann Rowe, Karen (Richard) Sharp, Sister in-law Vonnie Wenger and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, parents Fred and Freda Wenger, brother Walter Wenger, sister Janice Dase and brother in-laws Dwayne Lawson and Bernie Rowe.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time, as well as the wonderful church ladies who gathered delicious goodies for the luncheon!

Roger's service will be recorded and available for viewing following the funeral service for those who cannot be in attendance.
