Robert Schmit, 67, Bismarck, died February 19, 2012 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.
Cremation has taken place and private family committal service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Mandan American Legion Post 40 and VFW Post 707.
Robert was born March 16, 1944 in Canova, SD to John and Emma (Nelson) Schmit. He was raised and educated in SD. Robert enlisted in the US Army on July 20, 1965. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and was an expert rifleman. He was honorably discharged. On September 7, 1968 he married Carol Schneider at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mandan. Blessed to have shared his life is his wife of 43 years, Carol Schmit, Bismarck; one daughter, Christian (Torrey) Wahl, Mobridge, SD; three sons, Marc Schmit, Mandan, Robert Schmit, Bismarck, and Andrew (Sarah) Schmit, Mandan; seven grandchildren; two sisters; and four brothers.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; and a grandson.
