Richard Chowen, 75, Bismarck, passed away on October 27, 2015 after a long struggle with multiple health issues.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with Reverend Wes Aardahl officiating. Cremation has taken place and the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
Richard was born in Bismarck on February 6, 1940 to Harold and Helen (Unser) Chowen. He spent two years in the US Army and then served in the National Guard. On October 2, 1965 he married Carolou Wolfer in Linton. They were joined by twin daughters, Cindy and Cheryl. Richard liked playing cards and was an avid fisherman. He missed not being able to go fishing in the last couple of years. He was a talented artist and loved painting family portraits and nature. He made delicious cream chicken. Richard was very proud of his family, they were the most important thing to him. He was always looking out for them and was willing to help out in any way he could. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Blessed to have shared his life is his wife of 50 years, Carolou, Bismarck; daughters, Cindy (Paul) Roehrich and Cheryl (Sheldon) Wolf; and his grandchildren, Coby and Gabrielle Wolf and Marcus Roehrich.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas; and grandchildren, Wesley, Shelby, and Andrea Roehrich.
