Paul T. Jacobson

Paul Thomas Jacobson, age 97, of passed away on April 6, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center. He had been residing at Edgewood on Dominion, Bismarck, ND, prior to his passing.

Memorial services will be held at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, ND, Friday, April 11, at 10:30 A.M. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be conducted at a later date at Harmon Cemetery.

Paul was born on April 15, 1927, in Mandan, North Dakota, to Norman and Edna (Sakshaug) Jacobson. He grew up on the family farm in Oliver County and attended Yucca School. He graduated from Bellingham High School (WA) in 1945. Paul was blessed with 2 siblings, John Jacobson and Karen Jacobson Dire.

Paul was drafted into the Air Force in 1946 and attended Weather School, beginning his career as a weatherman in the Air Force. He spent time in Germany, Greenland and Rapid City, being discharged in 1949. He returned to the farm in Oliver County for a year before being recalled into the Air Force in 1951.

He married Marilyn Schwab on November 3, 1956 in Mandan. They were blessed with two sons, Carl and Alan. They spent the next 11 years stationed in various parts of the world including England, Germany and Taiwan, before retiring at Baltimore, MD, in 1968, moving back to the family farm.

Paul had several occupations in his lifetime. Weatherman, NSA employee, farmer/rancher, tax preparer and volunteer. He served on the Oliver County Ambulance Board, Farmers Union Oil Board and Oliver County Fire District Board.

Marilyn passed away September 7, 2002. Later he began a relationship with Paige Newton and they enjoyed many years of travel to Lake Havasu, AZ, Norway and other adventures.

Paul enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, good jokes and visiting with anyone who happened to be near him. He was an awesome conversationalist and loved playing cards.

Paul is survived by his sons: Carl (Sue) Jacobson and Alan (Elicia) Jacobson, both of Mandan; grandchildren: Aaron, Sarah (Renee), Kathryn and Teal (Donovan) Jacobson, and Great-Grandchildren: Monte, Bobby Jr. and Dexter. He is also survived by his special friends Paige Newton, Todd & Mary Newton, Blair & Vicki Newton, and many other special friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws: Peter and Minnie Schwab; spouse, Marilyn; brother, John; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Robert “Bud” Dire; brother-in-law William Schwab; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Darlene Hatzenbihler and Frank Hatzenbihler; daughter-in-law Sandra Jacobson; grandson, John Jacobson and great-granddaughter, Hazel Jacobson.
