Pam was born June 9, 1952, in Mandan to Ted and Margaret (McCartney) Jesser. She was raised and educated in Mandan. Pam met the love of her life at a very young age. The local paperboy, Dennis Hatzenbuhler, was her neighbor when they were babies and Pam was known to harass him when he delivered their paper. Eventually Dennis won her heart and they were married on June 20, 1970, in Mandan where they started their family. Pam worked at several local grocery stores before she and Dennis bought the grocery store in Flasher and moved their family there. They owned and operated D & P Foods for 18 years and also ran the Hungry Farmer Café for a few years.
While living in Flasher, Pam found her love for crafting. She opened a store and traveled to numerous craft shows over the years. She made treasures for her kids and grandkids that were personalized for each of them. Her family was the most important thing to Pam and she treasured any time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an avid bowler and also loved to cook. She made so much food she could have fed an army. Pam was also a faithful member of Spirit of Life Catholic Church in Mandan for many years.
Pam and Dennis moved back to Mandan in 2000. They loved the trip they took to Jamaica with Pam’s sister, Mary and her husband, Greg. They both talked about it for years. Dennis passed away in 2017. Losing the love of her life broke Pam’s heart and she was never able to recover from that devastating loss and her health began to decline. A beloved mom and grandma, Pam will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Blessed to have shared in her life is her son, Michael (Kari) Hatzenbuhler, Mandan; daughters, Kristen (Conan) Moore and Maggie Hatzenbuhler (Dusty), all of Mandan, and Jennifer Hatzenbuhler, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren, Kelsi (Marcus), Kassidi (Wyatt), Karter, Bradley (Whitney), Ashley (Zach), Matthew (Eden), Marshall, Isaiah (Mia), Seth, Trey, Penelope, Zhalia, Zorion, Jodi, Nevada, Mason, and Izabella; three great grandchildren, Aiden, Sienna, and Nate; her siblings, Sandy Bornhoeft, Jackie (Ron) Mead, and Mary Beth (Greg) Achtenberg; and the entire extended Hatzenbuhler family as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Pam was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dennis; her parents, Ted and Margaret Jesser; in-laws, Joe and Clara Hatzenbuhler; granddaughter, Jordan Hatzenbuhler; infant sister, Patty; and brother-in-law, Ted Bornhoeft.
