Michael Eckroth, 85, Mandan, died May 27, 2017 at the Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
Mike was born August 24, 1931 in Mandan to George and Isabell (Kautzman) Eckroth. He graduated from Mandan High School. Mike enlisted in the US Air Force, proudly serving for four years, and was honorably discharged in December 1955. Mike attended Wahpeton College to study diesel mechanics. In August 1956, he married Ila Nelson at St. Mary's Church in Bismarck. Mike was a talented mechanic who enjoyed his trade. Whether it was at work or tinkering at home, mechanics was his passion.
In their later years, Mike and Ila enjoyed traveling and wintered in Arizona for many years. They loved going to their grandchildren's activities and spending time with their family. They also enjoyed camping with family and friends all of their life. A beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Mike will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Blessed to have shared his life are four children, Jeff (Dorinda) Eckroth, Bismarck, Karen (Bob) Barth, Joplin, MO, Kathy (Dick) Ebel, Trophy Club, TX, and Karla (Dale) Hruby, Bismarck; ten grandchildren, Billy Eckroth, Bridget (Mike) Mehrer, Nicole Eckroth, Michael (Tara) Barth, Melissa Barth, Vanessa (Luke) Monteith, Jennifer (Daley) Lehmann, Kimberly (Tim) Hendricks, Jacob Hruby, and Anna (Patrick) Coyne; and 10 great grandchildren.
Mike was preceded in death by Ila, his wife of 60 years, in January 2017; his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Eckroth.
