She grew up on the family farmstead in Bottineau County, graduated from Bottineau High School, and attended North Dakota State School of Forestry, where she earned an Associates Degree. On January 1, 1965, she married Ernest “Darrell” Meeker in Bottineau. They made a home in Bismarck while Mary worked at the state capitol, then moved to Mandan in 1967. There, she took a job with First Presbyterian Church, where she served in many roles for more than 46 years until her passing; at the time, she was also serving as President of the Presbyterian Women, a national organization from which she received a Lifetime Achievement Award. She will be dearly missed by her church “family.”
Mary enjoyed baking, canning, spending time with friends and family including her two grandsons, and helping others.
She is survived by her sons, Ward and Chris (Janel), both of Bismarck; grandsons, Spencer and Nolan Meeker; brother, James (Micki), Mount Vernon, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; parents, Pete and Sookey; and brother, Allan.
