Mary A. Bullinger fulfilled her wish to go home to her Lord on April 2, 2025 at The Baptist Home Care Center in Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 on Monday, April 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan with Fr. Josh Waltz presiding. Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM on Sunday, April 6 with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 4 PM at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral at church.
Mary was born November 9, 1924, in Mandan to Peter and Kathryn (Wetsch) Hoffman. When she was just a few weeks old the family moved to St. Anthony where Mary was raised. She attended parochial school in St. Anthony and graduated from the eighth grade in 1939. Mary had many wonderful stories of growing up on the prairie.
On June 12, 1944, Mary married Anton (Tony) Bullinger at St. Anthony Catholic Church. They farmed in the St. Anthony area until 1957 when they moved to Mandan. Mary and Tony were blessed with five children: John (Diane), James (Beat), Kathleen (Ron) Olson, Melvin (Judy) and Antonia (Ron) Gumeringer.
Mary loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, her garden, canning her garden produce, and of course her flowers. Mary loved listening to old-time music and dancing the waltz and polka. Mary was a strong woman and lived in her little house on Fourth Avenue NE for over 64 years until she was 97 when she moved to the Baptist Home in Bismarck. Recently, last November, Mary celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family!
Mary was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan since October of 1957. She lived her faith and always carried her rosary.
Mary is survived by her children, nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Tony, four grandchildren; Tamara Olson, Ryan Bullinger, and twins, Mary and Emmalee Gumeringer. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and their spouses; John (Nellie) Hoffman, Eva (Frank) Helbling, Rose (Virgil) Seerup, Frances (Erasmus) Monzelowsky and her in-laws; Jacob and Mariann Bullinger, four brothers-in-law and 12 sisters-in-law.
