Marvin D. Hohbein, 72, of Affton, Missouri, formerly of Mandan, ND, passed away on August 11, 2015, at his home with his best friend and child Kuddles by his side.
The funeral will be held on Monday, August 17, 2015, at 1:00 pm at First Lutheran Church in Mandan with Reverend Lee Herberg officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, August 16, 2015, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan, ND.
Marvin Dennis Hohbein was born on October 4, 1942, in Judson, ND, the son of John and Martha (Siegfried) Hohbein. He attended school in Judson and Mandan. He married Alice Becknell and five children were born to this union. On August 23, 1985, Marvin was united in marriage to the love of his life Lois Green at First Lutheran Church in Mandan. Two children were born to this union. Marvin started his career as a mechanic in Mandan, working in several service stations, eventually becoming the mechanic for the school system for many years. He went on to teach auto mechanics at Mandan High School and auto body at Bismarck State College.
After losing his leg in 1985, he went on to pursue a career in prosthetics. After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Prosthetics, the family moved to Missouri where Marvin started working at Shriner's Hospital for Children. At Shriner's, Marvin impacted the lives of many people with his work. He was most fond of the idea that someone benefitted from his work every day. In his spare time, Marvin enjoyed antiquing and collecting. There was never a garage sale, flea market, or auction that wasn't worth driving to.
Marvin is survived by his children, Kuddles of Affton, MO; Marcia (Mike) Doherty of Parker, CO, Shari (Kevin) Hafner of Beulah, ND, Lori Gilman of Bismarck, ND, Marlin (Gina) Hohbein of Chaska, MN, Yolanda (Brad) Boyd of Bismarck, ND, Donald Barron of Bismarck, ND, Greg Hohbein of Bismarck, ND, Holly (Trevor) Nelson of Springfield, MO, and Devin Hohbein of Affton, MO; 15 grandchildren, Kristin, D.J., Chelsey, Danielle, Lindsay, Noah, Isabella, Joshua, Amy, Mandy, Courtni, Jaci, Jackson, Jayda, and Carter; 9 great-grandchildren, Tanisha, Kingstin, Cameron, Kalee, Brock, Billy, Alex, Kaden, and Lilly; one sister, Della Haddad; sisters-in-law, Marion Hohbein, Lela Hohbein, Lynda Hohbein, and Edna Hohbein; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Zinnel.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Hohbein; his son, Myron Hohbein; his wife, Lois; and 10 siblings.
