Mark Joseph Schutt, 61, Center, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Sanford Health in Bismarck.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 15 at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan with Pastor Cory Thrall presiding. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.
Mark was born May 3, 1963, in Linton, ND to Emanuel and Arlene (Zahn) Schutt. He grew up in Center and graduated from Center High School. On July 20, 1983, he married the love of his life Rona Roe in Grafton.
Mark worked as a farmhand and the labor unions for a few years and then Bullinger Tree Service as an arborist until he started Green Up Lawn Service, which he took great pride in from 1993-2006, when some health problems started. He taught himself to play the drums, starting with his mother’s couch cushions as his first drum set. At the age of 14 he started playing in a band. Throughout the years of playing in the Borderline Band they were the opening act of the Bellamy Brothers twice, once in Riverdale and once in McClusky. Tigerlily (when they were performing as Kendra) opened for the Borderline Band in Riverdale. He met many people in the band and his 14+ years of donating his time as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He never turned down a conversation and had a special connection with kids. Mark also drove ambulance for the Oliver County Ambulance for over 12 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing and most of all hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Rona, son Cortney (Lynette) and grandchildren, Carson Schutt and Braelyn Banda; his siblings, Mike (Tammey) Schutt, Karen (Kelly) Miller, all of Center; Mike’s children, Randy (Stacey) Schutt, Mandan, Terry (Shannon) Schutt, Lincoln, Shantell (Jake) Schutt, Wahpeton, BreAnna (Dillon), Center, Preston (Becca) Center, Colton (Eden) Mandan; Karen’s children, Jess (Myron) Wickenheiser, Bismarck, Kristy (Bryan) Bradley, Center, Lisa (Jim) Lageson, Mandan; in-laws, Bill (Carolyn) Roe, Ocean Shores, WA, sister-in-law, Kelly (Tex) Dickens, Tacoma, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Arlene Schutt, two infant sisters, Pam and Sharon; grandparents, Martin and Margaret Schutt, Wendalin and Rose Zahn; aunts and uncles, Bill Etherington, Ted Zahn, Emy Thomas and Dorothy Kangas.
