Lorraine Toepke, 84, Bismarck, formerly of New Salem, died June 25, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society-Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 1, 2011. The location of the service has been changed and will be held at the Peace Church in New Salem with Sherril Ungerecht, Lorraine’s cousin, presiding. Cremation has taken place and the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of the cremains will be in Peace Cemetery, New Salem.
Lorraine was born September 22, 1926 in New Salem to Oswald and Amanda (Waechter) Kirchmeier. Raised and educated in New Salem, she married Clarence A. Toepke there on June 23, 1946. Clarence was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army for 20 years. Following his retirement, he and Lorraine moved back to New Salem in 1962. Clarence died on April 17, 1971.
Lorraine was noted for her talent as a baker of fine German foods, as well as the holiday treats she shared so generously with those who visited her home. She had been a resident of Good Samaritan Society in Bismarck since December of 2010.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Craig) Bumann of Sioux Falls, SD; her sons, Wayne C. and Dennis Toepke; son-in-law, Charles Heid of Center; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Ralph) Erhardt of New Salem; brothers, Robert “Corky” Kirchmeier of Bismarck, John (Nancy) Kirchmeier of Mitchell, SD, and Jerome (Pat) Kirchmeier of Bryan, TX; sister-in-law, Ida Kirchmeier of Williston; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; daughter, Sharon Heid, who died in 2005; and brothers, Donald and Kenneth Kirchmeier.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
