Lorraine Kilen, 81, Mandan, formerly of New Salem, passed away September 30, 2011 at the Medcenter One Care Center Off Collins in Mandan. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 3, 2011 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with Reverend Vanvechten Crane officiating. Burial will be on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue from 10 am to the time of service at the funeral home on Monday.
Lorraine was born September 20, 1930 in Mandan, the daughter of Joseph and Elsie (Moebius) Huber. She was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1948. She worked at the Mandan Creamery, Honeywell in Minneapolis, and the Mandan Welfare Office. On June 29, 1956 she married Virgil Kilen in Mandan. Together they farmed northeast of New Salem and raised seven children. Throughout her life, Lorraine enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, bingo, and playing games with her children and grandchildren. A loving and caring mother, her children and grandchildren meant the world to her.
Blessed to have shared her life is her husband of 55 years, Virgil, Mandan; children, Karla Kilen, Bismarck, Kevin (Judy) Kilen, New Salem, Karen (Fritz) Messer, Cheyenne, WY, Kandace (Daryl) Jirges, Bismarck, Kerry (Kris) Kilen, Miles City, MT, Keith Kilen, Fort Collins, CO, and Kristen Hoyt, Tower City, ND; 14 grandchildren, Cory, Amanda, Jeremy, Bridget, Cassie Jo, and Shawn Kilen, Savanna (Messer) Lorenz, Katie, and Tanner Messer, Kelsey and Hannah Jirges, Joseph, Jonathan, and Alex Kilen; two step grandchildren, Brittany (Evans) Kapaun and Sarah Evans; and four great grandchildren, Skylar Garcia-Kilen, Addison and Charolette Kapaun, and Rilyn McDonald; two brothers, Vern Huber, Mandan and Duane (Georgette) Huber, Livermore, CA; sister, Donna (Robert) Joersz, Mandan; and sister-in-law, Shirley Huber, Newberry Park, CA.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Edwin Huber; one sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Bud Kindel; and one sister-in-law, Marlene Huber.
