Lorraine Gilchrist

Lorraine Gilchrist, 89, Mandan, died December 6, 2019 at Edgewood Mandan.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, Mandan, with Rev. Deanna Reikow officiating.  Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, December 9, 2019 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Lorraine was born March 22, 1930 in Lincoln Valley, ND to Jacob and Emilia (Heer) Dockter.  Raised and educated in Denhoff, she graduated from Denhoff High School.  Lorraine moved to Cloquet, MN where she worked in the drugstore and met a special man, Boyd Gilchrist.  While Boyd was in the US Navy, they were married on October 5, 1949 in Elkton, MD.  In 1957 they moved to Mandan where they made their home until moving to Edgewood.  Lorraine enjoyed reading mysteries, baking, and working on jigsaw puzzles.  In their later years, she and Boyd enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Europe.  Her family was her whole world and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her.  She always asked to see pictures of everyone.  A devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Lorraine will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Blessed to have shared in her life is her husband of 70 years, Boyd Gilchrist; two daughters, Jackie Gilchrist, St. Louis Park, MN and Sandy Westerlind (Daryl Delzer), Bismarck; one son, Gary (Jan) Gilchrist, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Gilchrist, Missy Gilchrist, Shanna (Josh) Jury, and Nicki (JP) Maddock; and seven great grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alice; and son-in-law, Fred Westerlind.
