Lois A. Pleets, 67, Mandan, formerly of Fort Yates, ND, died January 16, 2011 at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 20 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with Reverend Kenneth Phillips celebrating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, January 19 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4:30 pm and a Parish Vigil at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Lois Ann and her twin, Lorene, were born in Seattle, WA on May, 19, 1943 to Carl Martin and Lora Lois (Miller) Siegfried. She graduated from Center High School and cum laude from UND in 1974. On October 24, 1974, Lois married Wilbur (Banny) Pleets in Minot. They made their home in Fort Yates. Lois received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from UND in 1986. She was employed by the Fort Yates Public School for 37 years and for 3 years at the Standing Rock Community School as a Special Education Teacher at the Middle School. Lois loved her students and found her job very rewarding, especially when seeing her students grasp a new concept. She saw many changes in the field of education over her many years. A wonderful mother and grandmother, Lois was greatly loved and will forever be missed by all who knew her. She always put her family first. Lois’ catholic faith was a very important part of her life. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and a volunteer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Lois loved to read, sew quilts, play all kinds of cards, especially poker, bake caramel rolls, and spend time with her family and friends.
Lois is survived by her husband of 36 years, Banny Pleets, Mandan; two daughters, Laura and Terri Lee; two sons, Lawrence and Lyndell, all of Fort Yates; 8 grandchildren, Lacey and Kali Ramey-Pleets, Lauren and Lawrencia A. Pleets, Andrew, Amber, Anthea, and Anthony Whiteman; 6 great grandsons, Micah, MJ, and Louden Fox, Martell A and Maurice Whiteman, and Nathanial Schmoker; her twin sister, Lorene Lucas, Vallejo, CA; and sister, Bonnie (Clarence) Ternes, Emmett, ID; two brothers, David (Lorraine) Siegfried, Mandan and Allen (Margaret) Siegfried, Cannonball; and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; twin daughters, Dawn Marie and Denise Marie Tree Top; sister, Lynda Iron Eyes; and nephew, Darin David Siegfried.
