Lester Toman

Lester Larry Toman, 76, Mandan, died April 19, 2019 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church in Mandan with Pastor Christina Martin and Pastor Lee Herberg presiding.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery South of Mandan.  Visitation will be on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan.

Lester was born November 19, 1942 in Mandan, ND, the son of Frank and Alice (Rask) Toman.  He was raised on a farm north of Flasher where he attended country school through the 8 ^th grade and later graduating from Flasher High School.  Lester married June Ann Schmitz on October 13, 1962 at Bethel United Church of Christ in rural Judson.

Lester farmed until moving to Mandan in 1967 where he went to work for Sweet Heart Bakery for 10 years and later to BNI Coal where he worked for over 26 years until retirement.

Lester enjoyed having coffee each morning with his friends at Dakota Farms restaurant.  He loved camping, fishing, hunting, traveling and always looking to add to his rock collection.  His most cherished times were spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandson.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Mandan as well as a member of IBEW and Teamster Unions.  He was also a member of the Mandan Eagles and Moose Clubs.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of over 56 years, June, Mandan, daughter, Tanja Dee (Rik) Toman/Savenko, Bismarck, son, Carey Laynne (Tina), California, grandson, Paul (Qiuhong) Toman, granddaughter, Kolohe Shen Toman and great-grandson, Titus Xie Toman along with his sister, Annette (Gerald) Sieveke and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leslie (Nancy) Toman, sister Joyce (Harold) Pulkrabek and a nephew Douglas.
