Leonie Smith, 85, Mandan, died January 10, 2017 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with Fr. Nick Schneider celebrating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4 pm and a Parish Vigil at 7pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Leonie was born November 17, 1931 in St. Anthony, ND to John and Katherine (Skalsky) Ressler. She attended school in St. Anthony through the eighth grade and later received her GED. On April 10, 1951 Leonie married Fred Smith. They met while she was working at Ben Franklin and he was working at a garage. They made their home in Mandan. Leonie was a terrific wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and a wonderful cook, especially German dishes. She was an avid golfer, liked to play Bridge, and enjoyed quilting. Leonie was a member of the Fort McKeen Homemakers Club, the Catholic Daughters, and was a 4-H leader. Leonie also worked as a realtor. She was very involved at Christ the King Catholic Church where she helped with many things.
Blessed to have shared her life is her husband of 65 years, Fred Smith, Mandan; four children, Mike (Tessa) Smith, Montgomery, AL, Cindi (Jim) Binegar, Aurora, CO, Rick (Cindy) Smith, Chesapeake, VA, and Jane (Steve) Gratz, Mandan; ten grandchildren, Doug (Leah) Binegar, Shelby Binegar (fiancé, Matt), Matt Smith (fiancée, Amy), Malissa Smith, Travis Smith, Ryan (Annie) Smith, Jacquelyn (John) Catlett, Danielle (Charles) McKeldin, Elisha Gratz (fiancé, Zack), Emily Gratz; great grandchildren, Maliyah Gratz, Carter and Gabriella McKeldin and Eloise Smith; four sisters, Dorothy Zander, Seattle, WA, Kathy (Jim) Costello, LaMirada, CA, Hildie Gray, Seattle, WA, and Evey Russell, Bismarck; and brothers, Rich (Karen) Ressler, West Fargo, ND and Clark Ressler, Seattle, WA.
Leonie was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Irene and Florence, brothers, Larry, Lenard and two infant brothers.
