LaVerne Demianew

LaVerne Demianew, 85, Mandan, died peacefully on November 11, 2017 at Miller Pointe a Prospera Community, Mandan.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Mandan, with Reverend Ryan Wolfe officiating.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 2 pm.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, November 14 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service at 7 pm.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

LaVerne was born September 16, 1932 in Judson, ND, the daughter of Carl and Helen (Kunz) Hoesel.  Raised and educated in the Judson area, she graduated from New Salem High School in 1950.  LaVerne worked as a teller at First National Bank in Mandan where she met her future husband.  On July 5, 1955 she married John Demianew in Mandan.  LaVerne worked in the kitchen at Lewis and Clark Elementary School for 34 years.  She very much enjoyed her career with the hot lunch program.  In her spare time she enjoyed oil painting and was a past member of the Bismarck Arts & Galleries Association.  LaVerne was honored when three of her paintings were selected to hang in the ND Governor’s Mansion.  She had a talented green thumb and loved gardening and flowers.  She also liked crocheting, baking, canning produce, and especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.

Blessed to have shared her life are three children, Sharon (Rod) McKay, San Tan Valley, AZ, Sandy (Bill) Altringer, Mandan, and Scott Demianew, East Grand Forks, MN; three grandchildren, Lindsey and Sarah Altringer and Megan Jensen; one great grandchild, Jayce Jensen; sister, Irene VanderVorst, Mandan; two brothers, Wilbert (Mary Ann) Hoesel, Mandan and Laurence Hoesel, New Salem; and a sister-in-law, Ann Hoesel, Worland, WY.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harold, Ervin, and Milton Hoesel; brother-in-law, Darwin VanderVorst; sisters-in-law, Alice, Shirley, and Val Hoesel.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Edgewood Vista and Miller Pointe.

Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church of Mandan or the Alzheimer’s Association.
