Larry was born October 9, 1936 in Mobridge, SD to Emil & Lydia (Landis) Naasz. He attended parochial school through the 8th grade and then graduated from the Lutheran Academy in Mobridge. Larry served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962 and was stationed in Korea. He returned from his military service and married the love of his life, Betty Dabbert, on November 17, 1962. Larry worked for the South Dakota Highway Department for one year and then got a job with Montana-Dakota Utilities (M.D.U.). He was transferred to Mandan in 1977 and worked 35 years for M.D.U. before his retirement.
Larry enjoyed working on his coveted 1931 Chevrolet. He also enjoyed playing softball for many years, where he was able to play with his two sons. He collected trains, stationary engines, and any antiques. Larry also enjoyed having coffee with his many friends at Hardees and later McDonalds. He loved working in his yard and was proud of maintaining a green lawn. As he got older, he loved watching episodes of Gunsmoke, Wells Fargo, Cheyenne, & Rifleman often falling asleep with the remote in his hand! His wife Betty wanted a sign made for him that read “Husband for Sale, Remote included”.
He greatly loved his grandchildren Jack & Ava and enjoyed going to their games when he could. Larry was a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan and an avid Twins fan. He was known by many as the “Vikings man” as he was often seen wearing Vikings clothes.
Larry is survived by his wife, Betty Naasz; two sons, Craig Naasz of Mandan, & Scott (Daena) Naasz of Prior Lake, MN; two grandchildren, Jack & Ava; two sisters, and many nieces & nephews.
