Julia Ottmar, 96, passed away February 16th, 2017 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017 at St. Pius V Catholic Church, New Salem, with Father Selva Periannan officiating. Burial will be held at Mott Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 3-4 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Elm Crest Manor and from 5-8 pm at St. Pius V Catholic Church with a rosary at 7 pm. Visitation will continue for 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Julia was born May 14, 1920, on the family farm north of Mott, ND. She was the youngest daughter of Hieronymus (Rolie) and Elizabeth (Heck) Schaff, a family of 4 daughters and 6 sons: Martha, Margaret, Annamary, Eva, Theodore, John, Michael, Fred, Nick, and Adam.
Julia married Reiny Ottmar on February 8, 1941 in Mott and together they had three children. Julia and Reiny owned and operated Reiny's Shoe Store in Mott for over 20 years.
Julia was an excellent seamstress. She made beautiful Barbie Doll clothes and lovely quilts. She was a good cook, who will be remembered for her wonderful homemade bread and rolls. She also enjoyed raising African Violets.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Carole (Ray) Olin, New Salem, her sons Myron (Donna) Ottmar, Elk River, MN and Dale (Marlene) Ottmar, Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren, Shawn (Vicki) Jacobs, Toby (Kimberly) Olin, Shannon Ottmar, Tasha Ottmar, Casey (Lisa) Ottmar, Robyn (Mike) Ballard, Shane Ottmar, Steven (Dawn) Ottmar, and Tonya (Patrick) Hoard; and 11 great grandchildren.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Reiny Ottmar; her parents, Rolie & Elizabeth Schaff; 4 sisters and 6 brothers; one daughter-in-law, Donna Ottmar; and one grandson, Josh Olin.
