John P. Klein, 97, Mandan, died August 28, 2011 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with Reverend Kenneth Phillips celebrating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 31 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Parish Rosary / Vigil at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
John was born January 9, 1914 in Zap, ND to John II and Rosina (Fischbach) Klein. He attended country school through the eighth grade. In 1934 John met Helen Schmidt at a church fair. On July 27, 1936 John and Helen were married at St. Clements Catholic Church in Haymarsh, ND. They made their home near Zap until 1947 when they moved to Mandan. John was a farmer and also held various jobs in the Mandan area.
John was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his great memories and stories of the past. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, reading western books, listening to old time music, and attending rodeos. A strong, loyal, and loving man, he leaves a legacy with his family and all who knew and loved him.
Blessed to have shared his life are his three children, Rose Marie (Herman) Wolf and Roger (Gloria) Klein, all of Mandan and Charles “Chuck” (Ramona) Klein, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Susan (Jeff) Schwan, Joel (Penny) Wolf, Sheldon (Cheryl) Wolf, Laura (Bryon) Brynjulson, Dawn (Pat) Ueckert, Deanna (Lee) Baker, Trevor (Laura) Klein, Jessica Klein, Dawn (Tony) Altobelli, and Cherie (Tony) Sager; 19 great grandchildren, Jaret Schwan (fiancée, Dehan Janssen), Jacinda (Cory) Nelson, Travis (Sandra) Wolf, Natasha (Robert) Bohl, Casey (Hannah) Wolf, Dylan Wolf, Gabrielle and Coby Wolf, Kendra, Karli, and Jacob Brynjulson, Katelyn and Ashley Ueckert, Kaylee and Abigail Baker, Payton and Parker Klein, and Zander Winegar, and Emily Sager; and 6 great great grandchildren, Hannah and Joseph Nelson, Javeyn Irmen, Jayden and Kylie Wolf, and Madalyn Bohl. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2006; 2 brothers, Fred and Frank Klein; and 3 sisters, Maria Reiter, Rose Zimmer, and Anna Nagel.
