Joan Fitzsimmons

Joan Fitzsimmons, 84, of Mandan, formerly of Center, ND, passed away April 12, 2022, at Edgewood Village in Bismarck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 19th at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Center, ND with Rev. Stephen Folorunso as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to time of service on Tuesday at the church.

Joan was born August 29, 1937, in Bismarck, ND to Stanley & Agnes (Hayes) Orgaard.  She grew up on a farm and attended country school in Oliver County through the 8th grade.  Joan graduated from Mandan High School in 1955.

She married Irving “Ted” Fitzsimmons on October 3, 1959, in Great Falls, MT.  They lived in several towns in western Montana and in Utah before building their farm home outside of Center, ND.

Joan and Ted raised award winning sheep in which they were very proud of. They traveled to many shows around the Midwest as Tri-State champions and to National competitions. They also spent much time camping, boating and fishing. Joan also had a special place in her heart for her dogs.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Bill Mulnix), Bismarck; son, Ted Fitzsimmons, Mandan; a brother, Larry (Sharon) Orgaard, Center; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted and a sister Linda.
