Jerry Rhone, Jr

Jerry Rhone, Jr, 92, of Flasher, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Sanford Health in Bismarck.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Bismarck United Church of Christ with Darla Schafer, LM officiating. Burial will be at the Mandan Union cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jerry Rhone, Jr. was born May 28, 1925, to Jerry Rhone Sr. and Lucinda (Chase) Rhone in the family claim shanty in Solen, ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Solen, graduating as class Salutatorian in 1943. He received his teaching credential at Dickinson State College and began a nine year teaching career in 1943.
During that time, he became a licensed insurance agent for North Dakota and the National Farmers Union Insurance Company. In 1951, he was elected as Sioux County Auditor. He spent the next few years working at Skeel’s Electric Company in their new shop in Mandan. In 1956 he became an Electrical Advisor for Mor-Gran-Sou Electric Cooperative as they expanded into the rural county areas. Jerry was a long-time champion of credit unions and helped establish several. He still carried his Founder’s Club Membership Card.
Jerry married the love of his life, Bernice Wetzel, on October 4, 1958, in Glen Ullin, ND. They began their life together in Elgin where Jerry began his 40 year career with Farmer’s Union Insurance. In 1961, after a move to Flasher, Jerry and Bernice were blessed with their daughter, Cindy.
Jerry was very active in community activities and growth. He served on the Flasher City Commission for over 25 years. He also served on the Commercial Club, the Flasher Historical Society, and the Flasher Lion’s Club. He was proud to be a 50 gallon blood donor.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Cindy (George) Cresswell; brothers, Richard (Pearl) Rhone and Lyle Butch Rhone, both of Mandan; sisters, June (Ben) Kasyoki, Sisseton, SD,and Marlene (Larry) McElwee, Bremerton, WA; brother-in-law, Henry Wetzel, sisters-in-law, Lavern Johnson and Elizabeth Fandrich, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; son, Monte Lee; his parents; sisters, Elma Swafford, Sharon (Delbert) Chadwick, and Hilda (Wayne) Gifford; and brothers, George, James, and Robert.
