Howard Henke

Howard Henke, 78, Hannover, died November 14, 2015.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hannover, with Reverend Russell Fitch officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hannover, with a prayer service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Howard was born November 13, 1937 in Oliver County to Harold and Cora (Wolf) Henke. Howard attended schools in Hannover, North Dakota and Renton, Washington. He worked various jobs including: Wilkens Trucking and Bornemann Implement. On June 29, 1962 he married Joyce Kaelberer, they farmed west of Hannover.

Howard was a dedicated and hardworking rancher. His cattle were a very important part of his life. He enjoyed feeding cows with his team of horses and raising pigs. Howard was a brand inspector and served as an Oliver County Commissioner for 8 years. He was voted Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year by the Mercer County Jaycees and also served on the ASCS committee. Howard believed a Christian education was very important and served on the St. Peters Lutheran School Board and on the Spring Brook School Board. In his free time, he enjoyed shooting pool and playing pinochle. He loved his farm life, but his grandchildren were the most important thing to him. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Howard will be missed by all who knew him.

Blessed to have shared his life is his wife of 53 years, Joyce Henke; two sons, Lonnie Henke, Hannover and Benjamin Henke, Mandan; two daughters, Paula (Scott) Peters, Mandan and Tina (Doug) Davidson, Sentinel Butte; three grandchildren, Bryce Peters and Leah and Joshua Davidson; one brother, Merle Henke, Devils Lake; three brothers-in-law, Ed (Ruth) Kaelberer, Canon City, CO, Jerome (Betty) Kaelberer, Truman, MN, and Warren (Mary Lou) Kaelberer, Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eunice; and sister-in-law, Nicci.
