Helen was born April 6, 1922 in Tappen
to Gottfried and Katherina (Kercher) Werre. She was raised and educated in Tappen. Much of Helen’s childhood memories were from the Glueckstal Lutheran Church rural Tappen, Kidder County. On January 26, 1941 Helen married Walter Woodwick in Tappen and together they raised their six children. Having a large family, Helen enjoyed the everyday jobs of being a mother. After her children left home and had families of their own, she took a job as a cook working at Ohms Café in Mandan for eight years and at the Missouri Slope Care Center for fifteen years. Generous and giving of her time, she volunteered with RSVP for 20 years and most of that time was with Brighten’s Aid Inc in Mandan. She was a longstanding member of the Redeemer Ladies Aid and volunteered preparing weekly church bulletins. Helen crocheted beautiful crafts for gifts to her family and friends. She had great pride and love for all things "North Dakota" and especially loved all North Dakota sports.
