Harvey was born in Denver, Colorado on April 3, 1949, one minute after his twin brother, Harry. He grew up in the Denver Area and graduated from West High School in 1967. He joined the US Navy in August 1967, and was honorably discharged in October 1971. He served on the Aircraft Carriers, the USS Forrestal, and the USS Saratoga. He completed three Mediterranean cruises with Squadron VAW-123 as a Parachute Rigger, each lasting approximately 10 months. During his service he was fortunate to visit several European countries. Harvey loved to reminisce about his time in the Navy and the wonderful opportunities it afforded him. Following his Navy service, he continued to serve in the Montana Army National Guard for six years as a military policeman.
Harvey studied law enforcement at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA, and Montana State University in Bozeman. He completed the Law Enforcement Academy in 1976 and spent his entire Law Enforcement career in Montana, first as a City Policeman in Belgrade and then a Big Horn County Deputy Sheriff/Detective in Hardin, retiring in 2004.
While living in Billings, he met and married Anita Jean Patterson. Harvey and Anita were loving parents to many foster children and two daughters. They remained married for thirty years until 2003, when Anita lost her battle with cancer. Four years later, Harvey was lucky enough to find his life partner, Wanda Canada. Together they made a beautiful, blended family. During their marriage they enjoyed wonderful trips throughout the United States, often visiting relatives and friends during their travels. Harvey always said he won the lottery when he met Wanda.
Harvey was a true family man; he especially loved phone calls from his brother Harry, and his nephews Mark and Mike. He was a Navy man and he loved to banter with his Marine grandsons Matthew and Jeremiah. He was so grateful to have family and friends who were always willing to lend a helping hand. No matter what the projects were, Harvey was amazed with the results and expressed his gratitude over and over. Harvey took a special interest in anything that anyone would share with him. He loved challenging conversations, especially with his friend Diane. Harvey had a knack for making everyone feel special. Sharing the Holidays between his North Dakota and Montana/Wyoming family was another highlight in Harvey’s life. He also loved it when his daughter and granddaughters visited from Georgia.
Harvey will rest in peace knowing that Wanda and his beloved dog Gracie will be well taken care of by his family and friends, especially John, Greta and Todd.
He is survived by his wife Wanda, twin Brother Harry Dalton, (Lonita), Helena MT; four daughters Charlene Marie Follmer (Randee), Deaver, WY, Taryn Danae Sikes (Jonathan), Waleska, GA, Giget Elaine Kelsch, (Pete), Gretchen Ebba Canada, bonus daughter Heidi Salter, extended family Jayme and Tavis, all from Bismarck, ND; Grandchildren, Jessica White (Ricky), Bismarck ND, Jeremiah Johnson (Kasey), Mandan ND, Matthew Johnson (Tiffany), Lincoln, ND, Isaiah Johnson, Bismarck ND, Savanna Taylor, Mandan, ND, Brandi Pitt (Tommy) Lovell, WY, Evangeline and Penelope Sikes, Waleska, GA, Beth and PJ Kelsch, Bismarck, ND; Great Grandchildren, Ashlee and Austin Pitt, Lovell, WY, Fredrick White, Bismarck, ND, Brody and Brady Johnson, Lincoln, ND, Brock and Lexie Kelsch, Bismarck, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
