Grace Taylor McCone died peacefully in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on March 27, 2015 at the age of 105.
Visitation will be held from 7-8 pm on Friday, April 3, 2015 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Burial will be at 10 am on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Sanger Cemetery in Oliver County.
Grace was born on December 25, 1909 in Ellendale, ND. She graduated from high school in Aberdeen, SD and attended teacher’s college there. She taught in a rural school before marrying Dwight “Mike” McCone of Hensler, ND in 1933. They moved to Michigan during the Great Depression, where Grace worked in a gasket factory during World War II. They returned to Mandan in 1945 where they lived for the next 60 years. Grace spent those years as a wife, mother, and homemaker. Grace and Mike were married for 65 years. After Mike passed away, Grace relocated to Colorado to be near her sons and their families.
Grace was active in the Mandan Methodist Church and held leadership positions on the United Methodist Women’s organization. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards, and traveling, including Europe, to visit her family. Grace had a sharp mind and quick wit. She was interested in politics, valued education, advocated community service, and volunteered for several local organizations.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight, and two daughters, Sue (Mousseau) and Georgia Ann.
Grace is survived by her sons, Gordon (Norma) McCone and George (Janet) McCone; son-in-law, Dave Mousseau; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Grace led a long and happy life and always considered the prairie of North Dakota her beloved home.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Habitat for Humanity.
