Gordon L. Peters, 87, Mandan, died October 9, 2016.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 14, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with Reverend Christina Martin officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Buehler Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Gordon was born May 23, 1929 in Washburn, ND to Vernon and Esther (Nielson) Peters. He grew up in Mandan where he lived in the same home for his entire life. He graduated from Mandan High School in 1947 and then attended Bismarck Junior College, graduating with an Associate Degree in Engineering. Gordon enlisted in the US Army National Guard in 1947 and served in the Korean War from 1951-1952. Returning home he worked as an airplane mechanic for the ND National Guard, retiring in 1991.
As a sportsman, he enjoyed hunting for birds and deer with his family and friends. His most rewarding experience was when he got his Elk in Montana. A true "Jack of all trades", Gordon will be remembered for his ability to work on anything. His greatest treasure was spending time with his entire family.
Gordon is survived by one brother, James Peters, Dickinson and 19 nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George "Duke" Peters; and two sisters, Sally and Verna Jean "Punky".
