Gladys (Fairaizl) Isaksen, 99, Mandan, died June 20, 2015 at the Baptist Home, Bismarck.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Gladys was born January 3, 1916 in Mandan to Stanley and Mary (Janecek) Fairaizl on the farm in rural Mandan. She attended Mandan rural schools. The family moved into Mandan in 1933. Gladys worked at the White Star Café, New Palace Café, Huelett’s Variety Store (which became Ben Franklin), and Lubke Firestone Store, all in Mandan. She married Roy F. Isaksen who was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic control specialist. They moved to Annette, Alaska, then to San Bruno, California, and later to Cedar City, Utah. Roy retired in July 1971 and they moved back to Mandan and built a house. Gladys loved to garden and enjoyed tending to her large garden and many flowers. Gladys helped Roy in his lapidary hobby and they set up many displays at local vendor shows.
Gladys is survived by one nephew, Bob Fairaizl, Mandan; two grandnieces and their families, Shawn Dettling and children, Tyler and Jordan and Michele Fischer, and her children, Kaitlyn and Dylan; and numerous cousins.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; brother, Stanley (Mae) Fairaizl; sister, Mary (Walter) Kroeger; and a grand nephew, Laudie Fairaizl.
