Gladys Duncan, 93, New Salem, died August 25, 2011 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, with her family at her side.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Peace Church in New Salem with Reverend Joshua Eddy officiating. Burial will be at Peace Cemetery in New Salem.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 am to 12 noon on Sunday, August 28 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan and continue from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem and from 3 to 7 pm at the Buehler-Larson Funeral Chapel in New Salem with a Prayer Service at 6 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Gladys was born June 4, 1918 at her family home in Morton County, the eighth of ten children to Carl G. and Anna (Smeder) Rask. She attended school through the eighth grade. A talented seamstress from a young age, she worked at a tailor shop in Mandan doing alterations. On November 12, 1940 Gladys married Floyd Duncan at her parent’s home southwest of Mandan. She and Floyd made their home on a farm south east of New Salem. As a housewife, Gladys sewed much of the families clothing, had a large garden, and was a wonderful cook. Her children were a blessing and she enjoyed attending their school programs. Over the years Gladys and Floyd traveled to many states and shared countless memories. Floyd died on February 22, 2003. Gladys entered Elm Crest Manor in September 2010 and enjoyed the many friends she had there. A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend she will forever be remembered and loved.
Left with memories of a life well lived is her daughter, Phyllis (Larry) Larson, Bismarck; son, Richard D. (Carol) Duncan, New Salem; 5 grandchildren, Richard W. (Shannon), Amanda, and Matthew Duncan, Loren (Mary) Larson, and Evan (Sarah) Larson; 3 great grandchildren, Melissa Larson and Luke and Michael Larson; and two sisters, Genevieve Weiss, New Salem and Beverly Hogan, Mandan.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; brothers and sisters-in-law, Theodore (Esther) Rask, Arnold (Dorothy) Rask, and Carl (Lucille) Rask; sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther (Murphy) Christiansen, Julia (William) Glardon, Alice (Frank) Toman, and Gerda (Emil) Toman; brothers-in-law, Arthur Weiss and Roy Hogan; and mother and father-in-law, Richard G. and Anna Duncan.
