George Hopkins Jr

George Hopkins Jr., 74, Mandan, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023, at his home in Mandan. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Mandan with Pastor Phil Leer presiding. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at Fisher Cemetery in Rural Tappen, ND. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM on Friday, November 10 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan.

George Lee Hopkins was born to George H and Florence (Gregor) Hopkins on April 14, 1949, in Jamestown, ND and was raised on the family farm, North of Crystal Springs, ND. He graduated from Tappen High School in 1967 and served in the US Army in Ft. Lewis, Washington.

He was married to Alyce Entzie, and to this union, their son Billy Joe was born on August 26, 1974. He enjoyed and participated in horse shows and ranch rodeos. They moved to Michigan for Billy to attend school. George had his own yard service, worked in a foundry, a glass shop, and horse stables.

George married Sharon (Renken) on August 27, 1988. They had their son, Jared Lee on July 27, 1989. They were happily married for 35 years. George enjoyed huntng and especially loved fishing with his brother-in-law Duane! After working at the Mandan Moose Lodge he became a legion member and served on the board. Prior to retirement he worked at Pizza Hut in Bismarck.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, son Jared, Karalyn (Klipfel). sisters Bonnie (Marvin) Mertz, Frances (Dennis) Stroh, Marcia (Buck) Borchardt. Sister in-law, Doreen (Duane) Leingang, brother in laws Don and Doug Renken. grandson William Hopkins and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents George & Florence, son Billy Joe. Brothers Rolland and baby boy Hopkins, niece baby girl Mertz, nephew Keith Pfaff, niece Jessica & nephew Jesse Leingang, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
