Evangeline Olsen

Evangeline “Vangie” Olsen, 94, New Salem, died February 20, 2015 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Peace Church, New Salem, with Reverend Joshua Eddy officiating. Burial will be at Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Evangeline was born May 27, 1920 in Lincoln Valley, ND to Henry and Elizabeth Borchardt. She grew up on the family farm near McClusky where she attended school. Vangie worked as a maid in Portland, OR for a short time after graduation and then returned home to the farm. In 1964 she married Norman Olsen and they made their home in New Salem. Vangie and Norman were inseparable and especially loved fishing together. Vangie liked doing crossword puzzles, playing the guitar, and listening to Irish singer, Danny O’Donnell. She collected salt and pepper shakers and also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. Vangie delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and was a longtime member of Peace Church in New Salem.

Blessed to have shared her life are two sons, Roger Anderson, Coeur D’Alene, ID and Duane (Gloria) Anderson, Aberdeen, SD; one sister, Gloria (Ernie) Ensz, Burleson, TX; and one brother, Glen (Verla) Borchardt, Great Falls, MT.

Vangie was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Merrill Anderson; second husband, Norman Olsen in 2003; a sister, Norma Borchardt; and a brother, Orville Borchardt.
