Eugene Anfinson, 83, Bismarck, died July 5, 2016 at Sanford Health, Bismarck.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with Deacon Dennis Rohr officiating. Burial will be held at 9 am on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Parish Rosary at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
Eugene was born on October 19, 1932 in Belle Fourche, SD to Edwin and Gladys (Donahue) Anfinson. He grew up in Watertown, SD and later moved to Hettinger, ND where he graduated from high school. Eugene went on to SD School of Mines where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. On June 14, 1954 he married Marilyn “Gaye” Hasche in Hettinger, ND. The couple moved to California for one year. He then enlisted in the US Navy, serving for 4 years and was honorably discharged. Eugene was a talented woodworker, using only natural stain. He loved going to the casino with Gaye and they took in many concerts there. He liked to play the banjo and guitar and was known to enjoy a cigar. Spending time with his family was very special to him and they treasured trips to the lake each summer. Eugene retired in October 1992 as Gas Distribution Manager after 30 years with MDU.
Blessed to have shared his life is his wife of 62 years, Gaye Anfinson, Bismarck; three daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Edwardson, Carpentersville, IL, Pat (John) Axtman, Williston, ND, Stacey (Mike) Nelson, Maple Grove, MN; one son, Mike Anfinson (Jacki Peterson), Bismarck; nine grandchildren, Jenna Edwardson, Ryan (Bree) Edwardson, Kayla Axtman, Jake (Rheanda) Axtman, Casey Axtman (Abbie Kemp), Matthew Nelson, Benjamin Nelson, and Christopher and Josie Anfinson; and four great grandchildren, Audrey and Grant Edwardson, Liam Barratt and Braxton Axtman.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Travis.
