Erna Weigle

Erna (Scheerle) Weigle, 99, of New Salem passed away on November 13, 2022, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at a later date at Bethel Cemetery, rural New Salem.

Erna was born on March, 20, 1923, along with her twin sister, Ina, to Louis and Hattie (Albrecht) Scheerle in Judson, ND. She attended Spring Valley Country School in Judson until the 8^th grade.

Erna and her twin sister, Ina, attended beauty school in Bismarck in 1959. They graduated in 1960 and worked at the Patterson Beauty Salon from 1960 – 1961. In August of 1961, they opened the New Salem Beauty Shop on Main Street in New Salem where they enjoyed working together for 32 years, retiring in 1993.

On July 22, 1961, Erna married Robert “Bob” Weigle. Erna loved crocheting, crafting, and word searches. Between her and Ina, they made over 200 afghans. She also loved cross word puzzles.

Whenever you came for a visit to her house, Erna always welcomed you with food and her delicious “wacky” cake or pineapple upside down

 cake. She was known to have many compliments on her beautiful long fingernails.

Erna is survived by her seven nephews and their families, Greg (Donna) Pfleger, Dean (Kathy) Pfleger, Terry (Kim) Pfleger, Clyde Ereth, Robert Giese, Vernon Giese, and Brad (Mary Ellen) Ereth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sisters; five sisters, Verna (Ted) Giese, Anita Scheerle, Ina Scheerle, Delora (Pete) Pfleger, and Loriena (Leonard) Ereth; one niece, LaVonne Opp; and one nephew, Eugene Pfleger.
