Erma was born October 21, 1917 in Center to Gust and Mary (Perschke) Yeager. She was raised and educated in Center. On October 8, 1939 Erma married Ernie Beckman in Center and they farmed together four miles north of Hannover. Erma spent her life raising their four children, helping with farm chores, raising a big garden, canning vegetables, fruit, and meats. She was an expert at always having enough food to feed the salesman or friend or neighbor who happened to stop by at mealtime. She loved to bake bread, caramel rolls, bars, cakes, and cookies and there was always a good supply in the freezer for children and grandchildren stopping by. She also loved to read, quilt, embroider, knit, and crochet. Her hands were always busy, even when she was resting. She loved rocking her grandchildren and great grandchildren and as they got older, she cut out each article from the newspaper that mentioned them.
In 2008 Erma and Ernie moved to the Primrose Retirement Community in Bismarck and later to Elm Crest Manor in New Salem. They enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and listening to the Polka Parties and radio and TV. Ernie passed away in June of 2011 and life was never quite the same for Erma.
Erma is survived by her three daughters, Corrine (Bill) Brickman, Omaha, NE, Joyce (Marv) Borgelt, Bismarck, and Audrey (Delbert) Bargmann, Hannover; one son, Wayne (Loretta) Beckman, Hannover; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one sister, Stella Piatz, Stanton.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernie; one grandson, Charles Brickman; and her brothers, Walter, Lester, and Clarence Yeager.
