Emma (Sorge) Schwalbe, 99, Mandan, formerly of Center, died November 20, 2015 at the Sanford Health Sunset Drive Continuing Care Center, Mandan.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Center, ND, with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, November 23, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, 1701 Sunset Drive, Mandan. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Emma was born December 6, 1915, in Oliver County, the daughter of Alexander and Lena (Skubinna) Sorge. She was raised in the area and educated at the Center and Nebo schools. She and Albert Schwalbe were married on June 20, 1939 in Center. They farmed southeast of Center until May 1973, when they moved to Mandan. Following the move, she worked for 8 years as a cook and dietary aide at the Mandan Hospital.
Emma enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, canning, and baking. Her giggle was infectious and will be missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Mel) Barnett, Bismarck and Karla (Bill) Zander, Red Lodge, MT; her son, Dick Schwalbe, rural Center; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Albert; one son, Mark Schwalbe; daughter-in-law, Lila Schwalbe; her sister, Ida Ross; and her brothers, Walter, Ed, and Reuben Sorge.
