Emma John, 96, New Salem, died April 9, 2011 at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Peace Church, New Salem, with Reverend Joshua Eddy officiating. Burial will be at Peace Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm on Tuesday at Elm Crest Manor and from 3-8 pm at the Buehler-Larson Funeral Chapel in New Salem. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Emma was born March 24, 1915 in Dickinson, the 4th of ten children to Herman and Anna (Reinhold) Rieckmann. She attended school through the ninth grade. On December 3, 1933 Emma married Alex John in Dickinson. They farmed for four years north of New Salem before making their home on their own farm near Judson. They farmed until 1959 when they moved to town. Emma and Alex shared a deep love for each other and their family.
Emma was a talented homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flower gardens, playing cards, and visiting with friends. She was a member of Peace Church. Her faith, bible, devotions, and the Women’s Guild were important to her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. This kind and loving woman will be missed by all who knew her.
Emma is survived by two sons, Robert (Beverly) John, New Salem and Leonard (Barbara) John, Helena, MT; two daughters, Laura (Bernard) Iszler, Spearfish, SD and Lori (Herbert) Griffith, Poinciana, FL; 9 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and two sisters, Hilda Dassinger and Annie Frank, both of Dickinson. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alex, in 2003; 4 sisters, Alice, Freida, Dorothy, and Katy; 3 brothers, Herman, Herbert, and Bill; and one grandson, Christopher John.
