Emma Dally, 90 years and 12 days old, of Bismarck, formerly of Raleigh, died at St. Gabriel’s Community on October 28, 2012.
A funeral services will be held at 2 pm CT on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at United Church of Christ, Flasher, with Reverend Dale Carmen officiating. Burial will follow at Fairhill Cemetery, Flasher.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm CT on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service at 7 pm CT. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Emma was born October 16, 1922 in Shields to Fred and Maria (Christ) Herzog. She attended the Shields Country School, graduating from Elgin Boarding High School in 1940. Emma married Otto “Bud” Dally on January 11, 1942 in Flasher where they farmed the Dally homestead, south of Raleigh, until Bud’s death in 1982. She then moved to St. Gertrude, ND where she enjoyed being the assistant cook in the school cafeteria for eight years. In 1989 she moved to Flasher and worked as the Flasher City Librarian. In 2010 Emma moved to Bismarck and made Crescent Manor her home.
Emma was a member of Flasher United Church of Christ, Flasher 55 Club, Lions Club, Flasher Historical Society, a former member of Raleigh Homemakers, she managed the Scholl Apartments, and she just received her lifetime membership card to the American Legion Auxiliary. Besides belonging to many organizations which brought her so much joy, Emma enjoyed gardening, playing cards, especially Blitz, playing piano, baking, and cooking. Emma endured many challenges over the years and greeted each one with a smile, feeling that each challenge only made her stronger. Her presence made life easier for everyone around her as she was always there to help in any way. Emma took care of her father-in-law, went thru the dirty 30’s, lost her husband and a grandson, survived a stroke, a knee replacement, broken wrist, lost an eye to glaucoma, was recuperating at St. Gabriel’s after a fall and broken leg, and was the last of the Fred Herzog family of 10. Emma just celebrated her 90th Birthday. Through everything Emma always had a warm smile and never lost her faith.
Emma’s heritage will continue with her children, Roger, Mandan, Lyla Schreiner, Lark, David (Paulette), somewhere in MTJ, Loren (Linda), Mandan, and Sharon (Elmer) Miller, Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and another on the way; one great-great grandson; and special friend, Archie Giese, New Salem.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Otto “Bud”; her parents; four brothers; five sisters; and a grandson, Travis Dally.
Thanks to Betty Weigand for all her compassionate care while mom lived at the Crescent Manor.
