Douglas was born in Keene, New Hampshire the son of Douglas and Shirley Kirby. As a young child he moved with his family to southern California. He was raised and educated Inglewood. While attending Morningside High School, he held the position as drum major in the school band. Upon his graduation he entered the Navy. He was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Post military his greatest accomplishments were his children. Through them he coached soccer for AYSO. Douglas was an electronics technician and worked in Lake Tahoe at Harrah's Casino and Resort for many years. A special memory during his time there was him volunteering as Santa over the Christmas seasons. Eventually he moved to Arizona where he could spend time with his grandkids. While there, he volunteered at the local senior center and his church. He eventually came to North Dakota where he lived out his life near his daughter Amber and her family.
Douglas was a man of strong faith. He was quick witted with a good sense of humor, no matter what.
Douglas had a positive nature about him and he will be remembered most for his kind heart and selflesness.
Doug was survived by his children: Philip (Victoria) Palmer, Erin (Victor) DePrater, Amber (Elrond) Johnson; grandchildren: Rosalie, Nathan (Serenity), Madison, Anastasia, Tobias, Robbie, Kenny, Alaina, Gabby, Jazzy and Kylee; and 1 great-grandbaby, Hudson; the mother of his children, Lisa (Darryl) Ogden; brother, David (Jan) Kirby; sister-in-law Kathy; numerous nieces, nephews, along with life-long best friend, John (Phylis) Parrot and special friends: Chuck (Debbie) Richards.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Nicholas and Steven.
