Dorothy Ward

Dorothy Mae Ward, 94, went home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Edgewood Vista in Mandan.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Living Hope Church of the Nazarene, 1826 N. 8th St., Bismarck, ND.  Interment is at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dorothy was born August 22, 1924 in South Hill, VA, the fourth of seven children born to Herbert and Sarah Grace Hines.  She married Milan Edward Ward on January 18, 1946 in Washington, DC.  They recently celebrated their 73rd Wedding Anniversary. After several years of traveling to different locations while Milan was in the Air Force, they settled down in the state of Montana where their children, Thomas and Joylynn were born.  During this time, Milan worked for the railroad and they moved to Mandan where Dorothy started her office career working for the State Highway Department in Bismarck and then later at the State Industrial School in Mandan until her retirement. Dorothy loved to entertain her family and friends, go on fishing trips and camping with Milan, gardening, baking, knitting, and traveling. Her love of God and her church were a big part of their lives together.

She is survived by her husband, Milan; her daughter, Joylynn (David) Schulte, Fargo; daughter-in-law, Cindy Ward, Coon Rapids, MN; sister, Martha Satterwhite and brother, Logan Hines, both of Henderson, NC; five grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Schulte, Chantilly, VA; Pamela (Dr. Jonathan) Eklof, Bismarck; Nancy (Scott) Davidson, Fargo; Jessica (David) Evenson, Mesa, AZ; and Craig (Lisa) Ward, Burnsville, MN; nine great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Collin, Emrie, Odin, Nicole, Morgan, Amber, Autum, and Tyler; along with several nieces, nephews, and two sisters-in-law.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Thomas; two brothers, Sidney and Dennis; and two sisters, Evelyn and Charlotte.
