Dorothy Hoger

Dorothy (Hoesel) Hoger, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Salem with Rev. Zelwyn Heide officiating.  Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Salem.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in New Salem.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Dorothy was born on August 8, 1931 to Arthur and Margaret (Kramer) Hoesel.  She married Lawrence Hoger on October 20, 1952 in New Salem.  They operated the family dairy farm and later moved into New Salem.  She loved her morning ritual of going to coffee with the ladies at Rud’s.  She took great pride in her flowers and gardening.  Dorothy spent most of her adult life working in the food industry.  She served food at the Casa-Loma and worked at the Sunset Inn.  Dorothy was a member of the New Salem Park Board for over 16 years where she took camping reservations day and night.  After retirement she took it upon herself to organize all potlucks, soup suppers and funeral luncheons at Zion Lutheran Church.

She and Lawrence had four children: Pamela (died at birth), Lorren (Jeanne) Hoger, Larry (Debi) Hoger, and Brenda (Daryl) Winckler.  Dorothy took great pride in her grandchildren: Tracy (Mat) Hulberg, Pamela (Tyler) Dawson, Cassidy (Robert) McMullen, Tanner (Rachel) Winckler, and Marinda Marie Wentz.  She was also loved by 10 great-grandchildren.  Dorothy is survived by three sisters-in-law: Mavis (Lester) Hoesel, Ella (Roy) Tomanek, and Judy (Kenneth) Hoger.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Lawrence; infant daughter, Pamela; and her brother, Lester.
