Doris Irene Toepke Dettmann Templeton went to be with her precious Jesus whom she loved and served all her days. She was born February 14, 1920 to Lydia & Max Toepke in Judson, North Dakota. Doris was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Judson. She attended country school in Spring Valley School District School #2 through 8th grade and then attended Judson High School, graduating in 1938.
Doris worked at the AAA office in Mandan, ND. She married Wallace E. Dettmann in 1939. The family lived in Judson and later, on the family farm south of Judson. Wallace and Doris had three daughters, Sharon Lee, Marilyn Mae, and Nancy Maxine.
Doris was a Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader, member of the Women’s Guild, and a member of the Extension Club. She loved to bake, especially cinnamon rolls and kuchen for her family. She loved to sew, making many dresses, blouses, skirts, and even coats for her daughters. She also sewed formal dresses and the cheerleading outfits for Sharon and Marilyn during their high school years. Doris loved to crochet. She made countless afghans for the family, especially one special afghan for each grandchild when he/she graduated high school. All of her beautiful hand work included her signature “Dainties by Doris”. She also made many, many pot scrubbers.
Wallace passed away May 1960. Doris and Nancy lived in Mandan for 6 years. Doris worked for Montana Dakota Utilities. In 1966 Doris married Gordon Templeton of Almont. They lived in Minnesota, Minot, ND, and later retired to Judson. They liked to camp with the Good Sam Club. They also spent ten years wintering in Mesa, Arizona. In 1999 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be near Marilyn and Nancy and their families during their latter years.
Doris is survived by her husband, Gordon; sister, LaVonne Starck, Canon City, CO; brother, Gene (Marlene) Toepke, Judson, ND; daughters, Marilyn (Buck) Borchardt and Nancy (Greg) Myers, Lincoln, NE; son-in-law, Jack Becker, Cross Lake, MN; stepdaughters, Penny Marks, Del Ray, FL and Terry (Dewey) Hurick, Miles City, MT; grandchildren, Brenda Brittan, Debbie (Dan) Koehler, Jason (Dyan) Becker; Mark (Annette) Borchardt, Michelle (Mike) Johnson, Lisa Borchardt; Charlie (Jenny) Myers, and Andrew (Heidi) Myers; and step grandchildren, Heather (Scott) Cope and Derek Marks. Doris was blessed with 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many, many dear nieces & nephews.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Lydia & Max; brother, Kenneth & sister-in-law, Vi Toepke; her sweet daughter, Sharon; brother-in-law, Orville Starck; sister-in-law, Diane Toepke; grandson-in-law, Randy Brittan; and her first husband, Wallace Dettmann.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 10:30 am at Peace Church, New Salem. There will be a Prayer Service at Peace Church at 7 pm on Wednesday, August 12th. Visitation with family will be on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
