Charles Becker, 23, New Salem, passed away on February 4, 2016 after a long battle with depression.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Peace Church, New Salem, with Reverend Joshua Eddy officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Charles was born February 27, 1992 to Craig and Kristi (Bumann) Becker. He was raised on a farm south of New Salem. He attended Almont Elementary School and graduated from New Salem High School in 2010. Charles enjoyed playing football and wrestling at New Salem High School, placing third at the 2010 State Wrestling Tournament. Through school and after graduation, he worked for Becker Construction with his family until his father, Craig, passed away in 2010 from a long-time battle with cancer. It was through his father that Charles developed a sense of pride in working with his hands.
Charles enjoyed carpentry, riding his Honda dirt bike, tinkering with Derby cars, hunting, and fishing. He was excited to have shot a buck this hunting season.
Charles enjoyed spending time with his nephew, Carter and nieces, Aspen, Aurora, Athena, and Bailey. He had a soft spot for Bailey because they shared their red hair color. Charles was often seen sketching in an art book or dabbling at the piano, which he taught himself to play. He was also an avid chef and loved to share recipes with others; cooking seemed to bring out his more competitive nature. Charles often sought solace in the comforts of both music and the Bible, which he frequently read. He remained close to God and with his pastor in New Salem until his passing.
Charles deeply missed his dad and was always seeking peace in the world.
He will be greatly missed by his mother, Kristi Becker of New Salem; brother, Brandon (Angela) Becker; sisters, Alisha Becker (fiancé, Derek Winiecki) and Deanna Becker; nephew, Carter Becker; niece and Godchild, Aspen; nieces Athena and Aurora Becker, and Bailey Becker; grandparents, Dorothy Becker and Alvin Bumann; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his good friends, Jesse Strum and Eric Johnson.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Craig Becker; Grandpa Donald Becker; Grandma Muriel Bumann; and Uncle Craig Bumann.
